DELANO, Kern County. — November 5, 2026. The city’s November 3 ballot asked residents to weigh in on how the mayor’s office should be chosen and how long the mayor should serve. In Kern County’s unofficial final election-night snapshot, a Yes majority leads on Measure K concerning an elected office, and on Measure L concerning a two-year mayoral term. A No majority leads on Measure M concerning a four-year term.

Measure K and mayor election method

For Measure K, the county records 3,613 Yes votes (82.26%) and 779 No (17.74%), a 2,834-vote Yes difference. The measure is officially labeled an elective-office question. Its exact administrative implementation must follow the approved ballot language and any relevant city ordinances; it should not be read as a certified vote or a direct election of an individual mayor.

The term-length questions

Measure L, a two-year mayoral term, has 3,299 Yes (75.63%) and 1,063 No (24.37%). The alternative Measure M, a four-year term, shows 1,570 Yes (37.06%) and 2,666 No (62.94%). Treating these as one combined vote would be wrong: each is an independent Yes/No question with its own valid-ballot total. The final legal relationship among the measures depends on their enacted provisions.

Council positions were also on the ballot

Delano held a separate vote-for-two council election. Mario Nuñez Jr. has 2,181 selections and Liz Morris 2,163, with Elizabeth Arteaga-Gonzalez following at 1,603 and Carlton M. Lennon at 1,280. Those candidate votes are different from the three mayor-structure ballot measures. See California58’s earlier pre-election explainer for the question’s background.
